Left over from the war

Unless your superpowers include imperviousness to bullets, unaffected by sickness and immune to kidnapping, Somalia is not a travel option at the present time or the near future.

Located on the horn of Africa, Somalia is currently undergoing a war for independence by the not-yet recognized Republic of Somaliland and Puntland. Although many sources and travel guides claim Somaliland to be relatively safe, the country should be considered a war zone and travel to Somalia should not be considered without the above-mentioned super powers or similar precautions.

What to do

Avoid public demonstrations or large events, stay with trusted travel companions and refrain from mentioning the land of the free or the home of the brave. Somalia is thought to be a refuge of Al-Qaeda and has been linked with some recent demonstrations of terrorism.

Getting there

Somalia's international airport is located in Mogadishu, but may be inoperable at any time due to fighting. Car travel is also hazardous.

Where to stay

Somewhere else.
