Tanzania is a travelers paradise - for many reasons. Within a limited time, you can climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro, safari in the Serengeti (home to some of the largest concentrations of animals anywhere on the planet), and finally end your time relaxing on the beaches of the exotic spice island of Zanzibar - all within a period of three weeks.

What to do

This is a perfect vacation for someone who wants a little bit of everything. From the tribal and nomadic Masai, to the conservative veiled Muslim women of Zanzibar, Tanzania is a huge, diverse country that offers travelers everything from wildlife parks, picturesque villages, isolated mountain ranges, and friendly curious people.

Mt. Kilimanjaro brings more people to Tanzania than any of the other attractions in this multi-faceted travel destination, the tallest mountain in Africa piquing their interest.

Getting there

The two main airports in Tanzania are located in Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport. The popularity of Mt. Kilimanjaro as a destination has brought a wide variety of flights to Tanzania from around the world. Travelers can get direct flights from Europe and the Middle East although not from North America.

Where to stay

If you're climbing Kilimanjaro, you'll camp your way up to the top and only spend a couple of nights in hotels or hostels. If you're in Tanzania to see the rest of the country, you'll find that, like most of the popular tourist destinations in Africa, you have a choice of luxury and budget hotels in and around the mountain as well as the rest of the country. Hostels are even more common, located throughout the entire country.
