Zambia Travel Guide Overview

Landlocked Zambia is known for big game preserves, abundant wildlife and one of the largest waterfalls in the world in Victoria Falls. The country is also home to seemingly more adventure activities than it knows how to offer, not to mention a very favorable national park to tourist ratio.

Although there is much to see in Zambia, portions of the country are unsafe. There is periodic trouble along the border of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and travelers are advised to avoid that area. Unfortunately, the border area consists of about half the country.

What to do

Try to tour all of the national parks. Good luck. There are so many, even attempting to list them all here would be pointless. And these are not city swing-set parks, these are massive swaths of land full of the animals that tourists and travelers come to Africa to see. The parks are full of giant mammals, water dwelling and otherwise, as well as lions, zebras, cheetahs and crocodiles.

Getting there

Flights to Zambia land in Lusaka, but you can get flights to regional destinations, even internationally. Airlines run to Livingstone, which is near Victoria Falls, as well as Mfuwe which delivers people near the South Luangwa National Park.

Where to stay

Accommodations in Zambia run from adequate to elegant and can be had for as little as $5 for a night or as much as a few hundred dollars for a five star hotel room that, depending on where you slept the night before and what your budget is, may be worth every penny.
