Maldives Travel Guide Overview

There is no mistaking that the Maldives' beaches and resorts are among the most beautiful and luxurious in the world. There is also no mistaking that you are paying handsomely for every bit of fun you have on the tiny islands that support these luxury bungalows. The Maldives is perfect for resort enthusiasts or those who don't care about the size of the price tag on their vacation.

What to do

Relax on the beach, get a massage, drink from cups with little straw umbrellas in them... your options are limited only by the facilities available to you. Pick your resort with those interests in mind and be prepared to spend a lot of time reading on the sand.

SCUBA diving is the other popular activity in the Maldives. Almost every resort offers some sort of SCUBA package and several are specialty resorts that cater to your SCUBA vacation from start to finish.

Getting there

The Maldives make so much money off of tourists that the only condition to your visa is that you have enough money to spend in the country. That amounts to $100 plus $50 for every day that you plan to be there. With that kind of cash, you are automatically allowed to enter the country. Flights to the Maldives arrive at the Male International Airport and Gan Airport in the south.

Where to stay

There's no such thing as a budget vacation in the Maldives. Every resort makes up its own private island and there are no hotels or lower priced accommodations to be had. That said, every resort has the finest amenities and you certainly get what you pay for. There are a few rooms to be had in Male, where your flight lands, but other than that, you're looking at an over water bungalow or your own private island for lodging.
