There are some that say when the nationalists were fleeing China they took the nation's best engineers and chefs with them to Taiwan. Whether or not that is the truth or just folklore is up in the air, but the reality is that Taiwan has both excellent engineering and world class chefs. The once sleepy island has boomed into a global power, exporting high tech goods and making a name for itself in international business.
What to do
Be prepared to feel confined when you travel to Taiwan. The small island holds a sea of humanity, making it one of the most densely populated places on this planet. With the people and the endless tall buildings comes a surprisingly pretty nature that is certainly worth exploring. This probably isn't the first place you have read this nor will it be the last, but no trip to Taiwan is complete without a visit to the National Museum. It is a must see for anyone with an inkling of curiosity about Chinese history.
Getting there
