Monaco
Bring your yacht, your pearls and your credit cards to Monaco, the tiny country outside of France famous for its fast cars, high stakes, and big payouts to the world's richest gamblers. If you tire of gambling don't expect to have much alternative for activities, Monaco is the second smallest independent principality in the world, behind only Vatican City.
What to do
Gamble, wear your fancy dress or your shiny shoes, and act like you have money even if you don't. Monaco is focused on your cash and getting it from your pocket to their hotels and you'll be hard-pressed to visit this tiny nation and not part with more of it than you planned to. If you've got ideas of exploring the rest of the city, good luck. Monaco's approximately 600 acres are the size of a few big shopping malls and don't lend themselves to being explored for more than an afternoon.
Getting there
The closest airport is 14 miles away in Nice. Most flights to Monaco land at the Nice/Cote d'Azur International Airport and then passengers are shuttled to Monaco by train. If you're concerned about such things, there is a helicopter service from Nice to the Monaco Heliport.
Where to stay
Monaco's casinos have some of the most luxurious hotel rooms in the world. If you're looking for the best accommodations available regardless of the price, you'll have no problem getting a room in Monaco. If you're looking for something a little lower in the range of prices, you're probably not going to be able to stay in Monaco. There is a hostel, but even the budget accommodations are going to be expensive. Your best bet is to stay in a hotel in Nice or in a hostel in a neighboring town.
