Alberta Travel Guide

Alberta is the second westernmost province in Canada and includes part of the Canadian Rockies. It's popular for the oil, natural gas and cattle farming. The province is very diverse, mixing the roughness of the Rockies with the flatness of the prairie and the relaxing forests.

What to do

The two largest cities in the province are Calgary and Edmonton. Both offer tourists all the facilities they need. West Edmonton Mall is one of Alberta's largest attractions. It houses the world's largest indoor entertainment center and 800 retails shops.

Calgary is also home to some interesting places. You should check Calgary Zoo and make sure to go to the top of Calgary Tower for the best views of the town.

One of the most scenic drives is between west of Calgary towards British Columbia. Between Banff and Jasper there's the Icefields Parkway, a sight that definitely should not be missed.

Getting there

There are two major airports in the area: Edmonton International Airport and Calgary International Airport. They both receive international and domestic flights into Alberta.

Being a vast province, renting a car is probably the best option if you need to get out of the large cities. The buses and trains also link the cities.

There are a lot of hotels in Alberta both in big and small towns. The backpackers will be happy to learn that there are hostels in Alberta, especially in Edmonton.
