Newfoundland Travel Guide Overview

The rough beauty of the coasts, the culture, the friendliness of the inhabitants and their unique dialect makes Newfoundland & Labrador a unique Canadian province.

What to do

While visiting the province you can easily mix the historical sites with the nature tours. Don't miss visiting the Historic Signal Hill fort in St.John's and while you are here you should hike the available trails. The oldest part of St.John's is called The Battery and is worth your time.

L'anse aux Meadows is the only confirmed Viking settlement in North America. It's located on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The East Coast Trail is a lovely hiking trail. You can even camp in the forest. If you want to go whale watching you can take tour or you can go on iceberg boat tours at Twillingate.

Getting there

The majority of flights arrive on St.John's airport, although several other airports receive regular flights from other Canadian cities.

To explore the full potential of the province you'd probably have to use both a car and a boat. While you can get around on a car (rented or otherwise), if you want to head to the island, the only option is a ferry.

Where to stay

Places to stay are easily found in the cities. There are both hotels and hostels in Newfoundland and the prices are reasonable.
