Nova Scotia Travel Guide Overview
Unless you like the cold and snowshoeing, the best time to explore the area is between June and October. The coast line is filled with restaurants and shops. The majority of sights, however, are located within or close to Halifax.
What do do
If you like to explore the sights, make sure to check out the Citadel Hill in downtown Halifax. You can also take a detour from the city and explore the area around Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. The lighthouse is actually a post office and there's a tourist information there as well. While here, drop by the Swissair Memorial.
Fancy exploring a bit of nature? Tobeatic Wilderness & Southern Nova Scotia Biosphere is the largest protected area in Atlantic Canada. You can practice water sports or go birdwatching. If you want to see the whales, head to Brier Island. Here you can also find plenty of trails to explore regardless of your fitness level.
Getting there
Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport (YHZ)is the biggest airport in the province and receives flights from the major Northern American cities (both in US and Canada). Direct links to Europe are also provided. The airport is located at 35 km from the city center and there's no real public transport available to the city. However, you can choose between the airport shuttles and taxis.
Renting a car is probably the best way to get around the province. The highway system is simple and efficient.

There are plenty of places to sleep in the province. You can choose among hotels, inns, B&Bs, lodges and hostels.
