Cuzco Travel Guide Overview

Cuzco is known as the main center of the Incan heartland. The word Cuzco is a Quechua word that means 'navel' or 'belly-button', aptly named so because Cuzco was a very vital area for the Incan empire. Within the city, you can find relics of the Incas, such as Incan architecture on the lower walls of buildings. This Incan stonework is famous for its interlocking patterns of stone that fit like a puzzle. Just outside of the city, you can head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas along the Urubamba Valley. The Sacred Valley stretches from Pisac to Ollyantaytambo and contains many Incan terraced ruins and markets. Cuzco is also the point to hop off and get to Machu Picchu. There are various ways you can get to Machu Picchu from Cuzco: bus-train; train; bus-hike. Any way you make it, Machu Picchu is well worth it.
