Itinerary
Day 1 & 2: Fez
The tour will begin in Fez. Fez, an Imperial City, has a lot to offer, such as the Kairouine Mosque, spice market, tanneries and leather market, pottery quarter, henna market, woodcrafters, metal workers, and Koranic schools. The BootsnAll Group will be staying in the old medina, a World Heritage site and one of the oldest and still thriving medieval cities in the world! Our Moroccan guide, Aziz, is available both days to show you through this labyrinth medina with its 9000 lanes and alleys.Day 3: Ziz Valley
In the morning, we will pass through the small Alpine town of Ifrane in the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains surrounded by cedar forests filled with Barbary apes, and continue on to the Ziz Valley Oasis near Errachidia in the south of Morocco. It will take us about five hours. Tonight we will be staying in a small village that is nestled in this fertile region filled with date palm trees. You will be able to meet the families of the area who live and work here. Dinner is included tonight, and if we are able, we will have an internationally renowned band from the region play for us.Day 4: Merzouga & Sahara Desert Camel Trek
Today, we'll have breakfast then take a walk through the oasis before heading into the Sahara Desert for our camel trek. The drive to the desert is about 2.5 hours. Along the way, we will stop for lunch. Once in Merzouga, we will venture inward atop camels into the Sahara Desert, have dinner amongst the dunes and under the stars, and stay in a Bedouin tent for the nightDay 5: Todra Gorge & Dades Gorge
If there are any members in the group who would like to rock climb in the Todra Gorge, we will stop here, get fitted for gear and join our certified climbing guide who will literally show us the ropes! You can hike around the area, or if no one is up for climbing, we’ll head straight to the Dades Gorge, enjoy the spectacular scenery, and take a hike. The rock formations are said to resemble monkey paws. We will be spending the night in the Dades overlooking the valley.Day 6: Ouarzazate / Ait Ben Haddou
This morning we will be driving through Ouarzazate followed by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site and famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.Day 7: Ait Ben Haddou
Full day at Ait Ben HaddouDay 8 & 9: Marrakesh
These next two day will be spent in the lively Marrakesh. You might visit the Koubba Baadiyn and the historical Ali ben Youssef Medersa (Koranic school), or just roam through the souk (covered market) and see all the wares you can bargain for.Day 10 &11: High Atlas Mountains, Imlil & Armed
After breakfast, we will leave for Imlil, which should take 1.5 hours. Once in Imlil, we will hike up to Armed. Armed is a Berber village on the side of a mountain overlooking some valleys and a river, and Mount Toubkal can be seen in the distance. For those wanting to summit Mount Toubkal, a BootsnAll Guide, along with our Moroccan mountain guide, and mules and muleteers will be hiking 4 to 5 hours to the French-run Toubkal Base Camp. We’ll have dinner together then head to bed so that we can rise early enough to summit the mountain. Following the early-morning summit to the top of Mount Toubkal (well over 13,000 feet or 4,160 meters), we will eat lunch back at the base camp and hike back down to Armed the same day. We’ll meet the other travelers, have dinner together, and head out the next morning. Lunches and dinners on both days are included. For those who do not wish to summit Mt. Toubkal, the other guide will be staying around the Berber village with you. You are welcome to do short day hikes together or simply spend the day relaxing, reading, bird-watching, or sipping mint tea on the terrace. Lunches and dinners on both days are included.Day 12: Essaouira
Today, we’ll head to Essaouira, known as the wind capital of Africa. Here, you will have the chance to either surf, wind surf, or kite surf. If you have never done it before, don’t worry. You will be able to take an afternoon lesson with an expert English-speaking instructor for around US $40, including gear. For those who do not want to surf, you can enjoy a walk along the beach, the ramparts, or stroll through the medina watching the woodcrafters hard at work.Day 13: Marrakesh
Today will be our last day together. We will be leaving Essaouira early in the morning. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.Trip Information
