Trip Image White sandy beaches and red rocky desert; cosmopolitan cities and ancient Aboriginal culture... Australia's west coast is rich in contrasts, and boasts some of the world's most pristine natural environments. Untouched beaches and rugged outback terrain are all part of this overland adventure, and while the distances are vast, amenities sometimes sparse and isolation palpable, the rewards are rich and the experiences unforgettable.

Itinerary

Day 1 Perth

Climb aboard a ferry bound for picturesque Rottnest Island, catch an AFL football match at Subiaco Oval or tuck into fresh lobster before going bush.

Day 2 Kalbarri

Explore fascinating moonscapes in the Pinnacles Desert. Travel further up the Coral Coast to bunk down in the shearers' quarters at a sprawling sheep station on the banks of the Murchison River.

Days 3-4 Monkey Mia

Come face to face with Flipper's relatives at the Monkey Mia wild dolphin sanctuary. In the evening, embark on an Indigenous cultural tour of Shark Bay.

Days 5-6 Coral Bay

Frolic with whale sharks, manta rays and sea turtles in Western Australia's largest coral reef, amid a dazzling underwater sanctuary teeming with tropical fish and colourful coral.

Days 7-8 Karijini National Park

Experience the Outback's changing landscape as white coastal sand becomes dry, rust-coloured desert. Cool off in swimming holes and waterfalls among dramatic, rocky gorges and ghost gum trees.

Day 9 Eighty Mile Beach

Caked in red dirt, the industrious mining town of Port Hedland is known for long trains, big ships and salt piles. Soak up some Indigenous culture before camping on Eighty Mile Beach with the Indian Ocean right outside the tent.

Days 10-11 Broome

Colourful and moody Broome will delight weary travellers. Take the Broome Heritage Trail to discover the town's historical sights, bask on the white sandy beach or take in a film at the world's oldest outdoor cinema.
