Itinerary
Days 1-2 Beijing
Our journey commences in exciting Beijing. We'll feast on delicious Beijing duck, have a morning visit to the Great Wall and in the afternoon we explore the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square with a local guide. Top it all off with a visit to the thrilling Beijing Acrobats.Day 3 Train to Ulaan Baatar
An overnight train offers ample time to take in the scenery. It is not unusual to see gers and camels along the route as we travel through some of the most beautiful but inhospitable terrain in the world.Day 4-6 Ulaan Baatar
In Mongolia's sprawling capital, nomads wearing traditional dress are as common a sight as business people and four-wheel drives. We visit the Winter Palace, Gandan Monastery and a nearby ger camp to gain an insight into Mongolia's rich history and traditional life.Day 7 Trans-Mongolian Railway
The Russian border crossing is a great chance to interact with the locals and learn some handy Russian phrases. Watch the landscape slowly change from barren plains to lush pastures and lakes as we draw nearer to Lake Baikal.Day 8 Irkutsk
Almost as famous for its rustic but ornate wooden houses as it is for neighbouring Lake Baikal, Irkutsk is surrounded by mountains, forests and wild rivers. While here, we enjoy a boat trip on the deepest lake in the world.Days 9-10 Trans-Siberian Railway
The world's most famous train line takes us past mountain ranges, taiga forest, quaint Siberian villages and industrial Soviet hubs. The restaurant car is always jovial or you can relax in your compartment and contemplate the ever-changing countryside.Days 11-12 Yekaterinburg
Our first stop in European Russia is Yekaterinburg. The city's fascinating past has involved Bolsheviks, the mafia and the site of the execution of Tsar Nicholas II.Day 13 Train to Moscow
Our final rail journey takes us from Asia to Europe as we cross the Ural Mountains, which stretch from Kazakhstan to the Arctic Ocean. This is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque parts the Trans-Siberian route.Days 14-16 Moscow
From the Kremlin to the Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral, the icons of Moscow's past jostle for space with the boutiques and restaurant chains of its capitalist future. We explore the city's sights before a final dinner. You may like to top it all off with an evening at the Bolshoi ballet.Trip Details
