Itinerary

Days 1-2 Dubrovnik

With its steep cobbled streets, stunning architecture and paved squares, this jewel of the Dalmatian coast bursts with a fascinating history. Post-war restoration work has been extensive, and the views from the city walls - over terracotta roofs and out to a sparkling sea - are spectacular. There is plenty of time to uncover the hidden treasures of the Old Town or perhaps take a boat ride to the island of Lokrum, where Richard the Lionheart is said to have been shipwrecked. These days, Lokrum is the perfect place to sunbathe and swim in crystal clear waters.

Days 3-4 Korcula

Arrive on this pretty island by ferry, to stay in simple accomodation with welcoming local hosts. With its pristine forests, tranquil inlets and character-filled vineyards, Korcula gives its residents plenty to be proud of. A visit to a local farm provides an opportunity to try traditional home-cooked delicacies. Wash it all down with travarica, a grappa-like drink, followed by famous Korcula cakes for dessert. In the Old Town, there is time to swim, visit local boutiques or just soak up the charm of Croatian island life.

Days 5-7 Trogir and Split

Spend some time discovering this region's golden past in the World Heritage-listed town of Trogir. Explore the many medieval churches and palaces here before seeing the Roman ruins at nearby Split. The site of Emperor Diocletian's fantastically preserved palace, bustling Split is the soul of Dalmatia. Wander into the underground basements and bargain with the locals for handmade jewellery, then kick back with a coffee near the airy Peristyle.
