Days 1-2 Cairo
Colourful Cairo overflows with character and there is plenty of time to soak up the vibrant atmosphere. Visit the majestic Sphinx and the sole surviving wonder of the ancient world, the Great Pyramids of Giza. Wander the halls of the massive Egyptian Museum, taking in the thousands of ancient treasures on display.Days 3-4 Alexandria
Enjoy a side trip to the Coptic Church complex at Wadi Natrun, which dates from the 3rd century AD. In Alexandria, head underground and delve into the mysteries of the Kom Ash-Shuqqafa catacombs, before heading to the Pillar of Pompey, the only remains of the ancient Serapeum. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, built to hold 8 million books, will surely inspire.Days 5-6 Aswan
In picture-perfect Aswan, watch the sun set over the Nile from a gliding felucca and enjoy a traditional Nubian dinner. There is free time to visit the excellent Nubian Museum or to walk along the Corniche, before travelling to the massive stone temples of Ramses II, carved into rock at Abu Simbel.Days 7-9 Nile River (Aswan to Luxor)
Visit the Unfinished Obelisk and High Dam before cruising the mighty Nile in style. Stop along the way to explore the ancient temple sites of Kom Ombo and Edfu. On arrival in Luxor, wander through the magnificent Karnak Temple.Day 10 Luxor
Discover the jewels of ancient Thebes, the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the spectacular royal burial sites in the Valley of the Kings.Days 11-12 Cairo
Return to the capital and take a trip to the Khan al-Khalili souq to relax in a local coffee shop. If the crowds and the noise are too much, head out to the peaceful Coptic Christian sector of Cairo to explore its many churches, before a final farewell dinner.Trip Information
