Days 1-2 Venice

No place evokes old-world romance quite like Venice. Wander through the maze of narrow streets, over tiny bridges and along winding canals before filling up on Venetian delicacies in one of the piazzas. For true romantics, there is the option of cruising through the canals on a gondola.

Days 3-4 Gubbio

Take a cable car up Mt Ingino to the fine, frescoed basilica at its summit. Here, pay your respects to Saint Ubaldo, the town's patron saint, and enjoy stunning views over Umbria.

Days 5-6 Assisi and Spello

Umbria's religious heart is a wonderful place to explore on foot. See the Piazza Matteotti, Roman temple ruins, the magnificent Basilica di San Francesco, and the birthplace of St Francis.

Days 7-8 Rome

The ancient sites and modern glories of Rome must be seen to be believed. Do some sightseeing, hit the designer shops, check out the buzzing night life or chill out on the Spanish Steps.

Day 9 Naples

The birthplace of pizza, Naples was also a crossroads for Spanish, Arab and African traders in days gone by. Now it is a busy metropolis with plenty of museums, galleries and markets to explore.

Days 10-11 Pompeii

Covered in a thick cloak of ash by neighbouring Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii has remained unchanged for 1928 years. Explore this extraordinary ruined city before taking a closer look at the sleeping volcano.

Days 12-15 Amalfi Coast

Sun, sea and sensational seafood await. Explore the coastline, laid-back Sorrento and the villages of Amalfi and Positano - a fantastic way to finish this Italian experience.
