Itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Surrounded by streets filled with rambling old buildings and charming palaces, Plaza Mayor is a great place to start discovering the churches and colonial buildings of elegant Lima. Striking architecture and historic neighbourhoods make this city a fascinating place for a wander.Days 2-3 Amazon Jungle
A guided walk through the Amazon Jungle is the ideal way to learn about its wildlife - from monkeys, jaguars and otters to abundant birds and butterflies - and the practical and medicinal properties of the plants. The dense rainforest plantlife and lush flowers are sure to captivate. Stay in a simple lodge with a low environmental impact to fully appreciate the beauty of the jungle. After exploring the wilds, jump into a motorised canoe to return along the river to civilisation.Day 4 Cuzco
The Plaza de Armas is the picturesque heart of historic Cuzco, and from here there is plenty to see and do in the city and surrounds.Day 5 Sacred Valley
This lush, fertile valley with its impressive terraces has long been the main source of food for the Andes and is a stunning area to explore. Stop in at the market town of Pisac and visit the geometrically perfect town of Ollantaytambo for a sneak peek of the Inca wonders to come.Days 6-7 Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu
A relaxing train ride through the undulating Urubamba Valley leads to Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. Marvel at the grandeur of South America's most spectacular - and mysterious - archaeological site on a guided tour. Enjoy free time to wander around the ancient temples and massive stone walls, wondering about ancient life in this impressive compound. Endless photo opportunities will present themselves so don't forget your camera. Dive into some hot springs back in Aguas Calientes.Days 8-9 Cuzco
Take time to visit La Catedral, the city's greatest repository of colonial art from the Cuzco school, which combines European style with the practice of Andean Indian artists. For those who can't get enough of the great outdoors, it's possible to go mountain biking or hiking in the surrounding area.Days 10-11 Puno/Lake Titicaca
Learn about traditional dancing in Puno, the folklore capital of Peru. Launch off on Lake Titicaca and cruise the islands, with their striking scenery and unique customs. On Taquile Island knitting is strictly a male affair and the Uros islands are created from reeds. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and from the shoreline the water stretches out as far as the eye can see.Days 12-13 Lima
Delve into the history of Lima with a visit to the Archaeological Museum or the museum dedicated to the Spanish Inquisition. Head to the colourful coastal districts of Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro for some beachside relaxation and a great seafood dinner.Trip Information
