This was the trip that started it all for Intrepid, and it remains one of our most popular. Northern Thailand is one of the greatest adventure destinations on the planet and we make the most of it - among the hilltribes, on the rivers and in the villages - so come along and see why this has become the benchmark for all our other journeys.

Call in at Mae Sai, full of colourful shops stacked with Chinese goods, on the way to the Golden Triangle. The junction of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar has finally left behind its chequered past. Dine at a restaurant on the banks of the Mekong River. Visit the Opium Museum for an insight into everything poppy or take a fast boat down the Mekong. Chiang Rai boasts a great night market which is the perfect spot for an after-dinner wander before jumping onto an overnight train back to the capital.Days 14-15 Bangkok
