Itinerary

Days 1-2 Bangkok

Take to the saddle and cycle through the quiet backstreets of this steamy metropolis to gain a unique insight into city life. Riding around Bangkok is fun and an unsual way to see the city. There's free time to tour the Grand Palace, enjoy a Thai massage or to visit Wat Pho and have your fortune told.

Days 3-5 Hilltribe Trek

Get your boots dirty in the thick, green forests of Thailand for three days of jungle-trekking around hilltribe villages. Listen out for birdcalls and learn about the plants in the area from your knowledgeable local guide. Ramble beneath enormous rain trees, and through rice paddies and farms before rejuvenating with a dip beneath pale blue waterfalls, a soak in hot springs or a tribal massage. Try your hand at adventure bamboo rafting at Akha village or maybe hit the markets to see local handicrafts. At night, stay in the villages of the Karen people to discover the intriguing traditions of these hilltribes. Sleep in a traditional bamboo cottage to truly experience village life and wake to the sounds of the jungle.

Days 6-9 Chiang Mai

Pedal along paths less-travelled through Chiang Mai's more interesting neighbourhoods, passing beautiful houses en route to the countryside. This is an area rarely seen by tourists, on a route that takes in country roads and beautiful changing scenery of paddies, orchards and small villages. At the end of a day's cycling, there's nothing quite like a soak in a traditional mud bath. Trade gentle hills for flat rice fields and ride past a large standing Buddha and fascinating former leper colony. There are mountain biking options back in Chiang Mai if you haven't had enough, and rock climbing in the Mae On district if you want to try a different kind of active adventure. Head to the famous night bazaar for some Thai green curry or other spicy local specialties, cooked up fresh as you wait. There are also some 300 temples to explore before boarding an overnight train bound for the capital.

Days 10-12 Kanchanaburi/River Kwai

Pay tribute to lives lost on the Death Railway at Hellfire Pass. Afterwards, there's an option to take a saamlaw tour around Kanchanaburi or explore some of its famous museums. Down by the River Kwai, it's time for some fun in the water. Kayak past farming villages and spend the night aboard jungle rafts for an amazing experience. Paddle at a leisurely pace across smooth waters to fully appreciate the serenity and beauty of the area. Celebrate this awesome adventure with a final night's dinner or maybe indulge in a Thai massage to soothe hard-working muscles - you've earned it!

Day 13 Bangkok

The journey comes full circle on the busy streets of Bangkok.
