The northwest of Vietnam is a captivating blend of dramatic landscapes and colourful hill tribes. Sapa is an old hillstation in a spectacularly beautiful valley close to the border with China. Its breathtaking mountain scenery is some of the best in Asia. Famous for its Saturday market, many people now prefer to visit Sapa during the week when it is less crowded with tourists and there are still plenty of sights to be enjoyed. Ethnic minorities from many of the surrounding villages don their most colourful costumes and head for the market in Sapa on Saturdays.
