Moving into the vast Amazon Basin, arrive in historic Manaus, an important trading city on the mighty river. Take a 3-day optional excursion into the depths of the rainforest for a true jungle adventure. Then embark on an epic 4-day river trip down the Amazon River to the city of Belem near the Atlantic Ocean. Continue south along the coast through secluded oases, mangrove clad rivers, and beautiful remote beaches, where small fishing villages are hidden amongst huge sand dunes. Traverse the state of Bahía, the epicentre of Afro-Brazilian culture. A short flight takes us to Rio, a fun-loving city famous for its beaches. Continue south from Rio along the Atlantic coast by bus, then by ferry to Ilha Grande - perfect for relaxing on the beach and sipping caipirinhas. Further down the coast we encounter the quaint colonial town of Paraty, famous for both architecture and beaches. After relaxing on the coast we head west to the awesome Iguassu Falls, where we spend a couple of days to take full advantage of the many opportunities and activities here, like an exhilarating boat trip.Day 52-57 Argentina and Uruguay
From Brazil we cross through Argentina into Uruguay, and stay in the city of Salto, famous for its relaxing thermal baths. A day’s journey through picturesque settlements and pastures leads us to Uruguay’s capital city of Montevideo, followed by the charming colonial city of Colonia del Sacramento. Experience the relaxed, pleasant Uruguayan culture before crossing back into Argentina. Crossing the Rio de la Plata by ferry, we finally reach the dynamic city of Buenos Aires. There is much to do in this vibrant metropolis, with plenty of museums, theatres and historical areas. Be sure to visit the colourful neighbourhoods of La Boca, San Telmo, and the Recoleta, and catch some tango at one of the many tanguerias, or tango houses.
