Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Oslo
Arrive into Oslo the capital of Norway at anytime. For July 9th departure please see dossier for additional informationDay 2 Oslo to Longyearbyen
Our flight departs Oslo for captial city of Svalbard, Longyearbyen. After a transfer to our hotel, you will have the day to explore this charming Norwegian town at the top of the world.Day 3 Longyearbyen
In the moring you will enjoy a tour of the history and culture of Longyearbyen. Embarkation of the expedition ship will take place in the late afternoon.Day 4-10 Svalbard Archipelago
Each day will be planned to take advantage of local ice and weather conditions. Svalbard is one of the few places on the planet to offer such a plethora of natural and historical extravaganzas. During these 7 days we will visit ice covered fjords with breathtaking mountain scenery and glaciers crashing into the sea around us. We will spend time steaming through the ice in search of polar bears hunting seals. Ivory Gulls are the highlight for birders, while constantly keeping a look out for walruses either on ice or at an onshore hullout. We will visit spectacular bird cliffs filled with thousands of murres, as well as kittiwakes and other types of gulls. A little awk (dovekie) colony will also be on our agenda. Our on shore stops will be highlighted with flowers nearing the peak of their season and observation of their adaptation to what consider an extreme environment. At one or more of the stops, we hope to see one of Svalbard’s species of reindeer, smaller than the southern relatives, but still carrying impressive antlers. By not having a set agenda, we will be free to take advantage of the best that Svalbard has to offer before concluding our adventure in Longyearbyen.Day 11 Longyearbyen
We arrive in Longyearbyen in the early morning for disembarkation. We will transfer to airport to catch our flight to Oslo. Once in Oslo, the evening is free to relax and see the sights.Day 12 Oslo
