Unforgettable Yemen

Trip Image Yemen is a timeless land steeped in history and shrouded in legend. Known by the Romans as Felix Arabia (or happy Arabia), the austere land of the Queen of Sheba at the foot of the Arabian Peninsula is the birthplace of empires and kingdoms that were built on the incense trade. Explore its captivating culture on the journey from San'a, home to the wonderfully crafted mud-brick tower houses, across the spectacular villages of the Haraz Mountains to Wadi Hadramawt and Shibam, the 'Manhattan of the Desert'.

Itinerary

Day 1 San'a

Locals in distinct traditional garb jostle for space in the narrow alleyways of the Old City. Spend an unforgettable night here in an ancient tower house, an example of an early skyscraper.

Day 2 Al-Mahwit

Peek inside the lovely latticed windows of an 18th century rock palace. Seeming to grow out of the rocky crag upon which it stands, this impressive palace is symbolic of Yemeni architecture.

Days 3-4 Al-Hajjarah

Trek in the Haraz Mountains and stop in at a coffee plantation.

Days 5-6 Al-Hudayda

Leave the relatively cool mountains behind for some time by the steamy Red Sea coast.

Day 7 Al Khawkha

Learn the tricks of trade in Beit Al-Faqih's enormous Friday morning market.

Day 8-9 Ta'izz

Immerse yourself in Yemeni culture at the Qat souq in Jibla.

Day 10 Aden

Visit the legendary launch pad of Noah's Ark and take a tour around Aden's picturesque Old Town, its crooked streets lined with houses in charming Victorian and Indian styles.

Day 11 Wadi Hadramawt

Spend the night in a beautifully decorated mud hotel and explore the spectacular Wadi Hadramawt. An afternoon bicycle ride travels through fragrant fruit orchards and into Shibam, famously nicknamed Manhattan of the Desert for its densely packed collection of 16th century multi-storey houses.

Day 12 Wadi Da'wan

Reach the heart of lush Wadi Da'wan via an overnight 4WD safari.

Days 13-15 San'a

The timeless masterpiece of San'a is full of treasures. Explore th 19th century Sultan's Palace before a journey to the small town of Tarim, known for its abundance of mud brick houses. Say farewell to this amazing country back in San'a.
