Cinque Terre - 8 Day Self Guided Walk
The Cinque Terre is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, an area famed for the beauty of its coastline, its picturesque villages, and its ancient systems of footpaths which, before the advent of the railway, were the towns' only link to the outside world. It is one of the most amazing coastal routes in Europe. Be sure that you'll get a deep appreciation for the beauty of the dramatically terraced hills and azure seas on this week-long walk.

Itinerary
Days 1-2 Bonassola
An easy circular walk from Bonassola is a great introduction to the stunning views which you will enjoy on this trip. Walk to the Punta della Madonna chapel, built on a cliff overlooking the sea.Afterwards, why not reward yourself with a swim in the crystal waters of the Mediterranean, or a plate of the fabulous seafood?Days 3-4 Bonassola to Levanto & Monterosso
Follow the old mule paths which connect the towns and villages of the Cinque Terre. Much of today's walk is pleasantly shady as you climb through tree-covered slopes, with the sparkling sea far below. In Monterosso there is a free day to explore the town, with its historical quarter and glorious beaches. Then we recommend treating yourself to a drink of the local wine as you watch the sun set over the water.Day 5 Monterosso to Riomaggiore
Leave the sea behind for a day and hike inland on the ridge above the coast. The Sanctuary Path unites the five sanctuaries that for centuries have kept watch over the villages and the inhabitants of the Cinque Terre. This is an unusual and evocative hike which provides the opportunity to delve more deeply into the history of this fascinating area.Days 6-8 Riomaggiore to Portovenere & Palmaria Island
The final day's walk travels up through the steeply terraced vineyards ad olive groves which characterise the Cinque Terre, exchanging the popular coastal villages for the sleepy inland settlements perched precariously on the hillsides. The views are amazing. Then follow the trail down to picturesque Portovenere, from where it is possible to take a short boat ride to explore the nearby island of Palmaria.Trip Details
