Itinerary

Days 1-2 Monterosso to Riomaggiore

The famous coastal path of the Cinque Terre offers breathtaking panoramas of the coast and the colourful painted houses that make up the 'five lands'. From cliffs high above the sea, the views are endless, encompassing the whole of the Cinque Terre. The area is famous for its seafood and for the produce of the steep hillsides - wine, olives and basil. Try the pesto which is the local speciality - it's fabulous!

Day 3 Riomaggiore

Hiking on the ridge above the coast, follow the Sanctuary Path that unites the five sanctuaries which for centuries have kept watch over the villages and the inhabitants of the Cinque Terre. This is an unusual and evocative hike which combines beautiful scenery with the opportunity to delve more deeply into the history of this fascinating area.

Days 4-5 Riomaggiore to Portovenere

The final day's walk travels up through the steeply terraced vineyards and olive groves which characterise the Cinque Terre, exchanging the popular coastal villages for the sleepy inland settlements perched precariously on the hillsides. The views are amazing. Then follow the trail down to picturesque Portovenere.
