Itinerary

Day 1 Puerto Maldonado/Tambopata

An Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica representative will meet you at the Puerto Maldonado airport and take you to the lodge. On the banks of Perus Madre de Dios River, in the heart of a 40-square-mile private ecological reserve deep in the Amazon rainforest stands the rustically elegant Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. All 34 of the jungle camp's thatched cabanas are illuminated by lantern light with the beds shrouded in clouds of muslin. Cozy hammocks swing on porches and the sounds of the jungle act as an evening lullaby. After lunch head out for an introductory familiarization hike. A web of tree-trunk sidewalks join the Reserva Amazonicas buildings and 8km (6 miles) of trails wind through the jungle that surrounds the lodge. The dramatic Canopy Walk takes visitors on a thrilling journey high above the rain-forest. Continue your explorations on an evening boat tour out on the river, followed by an interesting presentation about the lodge and its surroundings.

Day 2 Tambopata

After breakfast, take a tour of nearby Sandoval Lake for wildlife-spotting opportunities. This afternoon you will learn more about the wetlands and walk through the treetops on a guided canopy tour. Seven hanging bridges, six treetop observation platforms, and two tall towers offers visitors glimpses of rare and unusual flora and fauna, impossible to see from the ground. It is considered one of the safest canopy walkways in the world. The ground-level Interpretation Centre is packed with information about the rainforest and its ecology. After dinner, enjoy a presentation explaining more about what you have seen so far.

Day 3 Tambopata

After a tropical breakfast, enjoy a walk through the Tambopata National Reserve - various additional activities, excursions and hikes are available to choose from. Enjoy a dinner at the lodge and then an evening nature presentation.

Day 4 Depart Puerto Maldonado

On your final day in this extraordinary rainforest you will visit a butterfly farm in Puerto Maldonado. There are 3800 species of butterfly in Peru and many of the colourful and exotic species can be found at the farm. Finally depart for the airport for your flight to Lima or Cuzco
