You could be working on 1 of 2 specialised marine turtle conservation projects, involved in the day to day preservation on the endangered leatherback turtle species. You could be helping out with the preparation of hatcheries, beach clearance and night patrols. The Leatherback turtles are considered critically endangered, i.e over 80% of the population lost in the last 10 years!You will receive training on the subject of marine turtles and therefore will be able help with research and data collection.

Accomodation Accommodation is included in your project fee.Expect basic conditions, sometimes without electricity or running water. Your accommodation will be shared rooms/ dormitories, camping or homestay depending on location.
Meals Three simple meals a day are included in your project fee prepared on-site. Vegetarians welcome.
Activities Beach patrols to monitor nesting turtles, recording data for scientific research and working in hatcheries. Research assistant and following training greater responsibilities to ensure the sucess of the project.
Schedule 1 to 4 hour beach patrol shifts, and 4 hour shifts during the day, working on the hatcheries and also beach clearance.You will arrive day 1, your orientation will be held on day 2 and you will start your project work on day 3.Please note: Semana Santa (Latin America Holy week) will be from 1st to 8th April 2007 and 16th to 23rd March 2008, you will have some disruptions to the placement during this time.
Resources The projects are equipped with necessary tools and resources.
Requirements CV required for confirmation from the project. Great for people with an interest in Biology, Marine Biology, tropical studies etc.
