Community work with underprivileged children in Costa Rica

i-to-i works with a variety of not-for-profit day care centres and shelters to help children who have been affected by poverty and abuse. The projects are located in the poorer suburbs of San Jose and in surrounding towns in the Central Valley. You would give support and a positive direction to boys and girls, from babies to teens and help encourage community development in Costa Rica. Spend your day playing with the kids, preparing meals and snacks, helping with homework and perhaps taking them to the doctor or to school. You can put your creativity to use to teach a bit of English or music plus decorate and maintain the centres.

| Accomodation | Accommodation is included in your project fee. Comfortable homestay with a local family, with private bedroom. |
| Meals | Three meals a day are included in your project fee. Simple but nutritious breakfasts and dinners will be provided. Vegetarians are welcome. |
| Activities | Various types of support work. |
| Schedule | 6 to 8 hours a day, five days a week.Please note: Semana Santa (Latin America Holy week) will be from 1st to 8th April 2007 and 16th to 23rd March 2008, you may have some disruptions to the placement during this time. |
| Resources | The projects are often under-resourced, but items like paper and pencils can be bought very cheaply in-country, so we suggest a little fundraising before departure to allow you to buy some materials for activities. Basic English language resources you could bring from home would be appreciated. |
| Requirements | Conversational Spanish required.Female volunteers only. Male volunteers take a look at Community work with orphans and underprivileged children in Posadas, Argentina or Teach English at urban schools in Costa Rica. |
