Help foster community development in the Dominican Republic at this volunteer project which offers rewarding work with children in Santo Domingo. This community service project is centred on helping children overcome difficulties in their lives. Whether that is loss of parents or substance abuse, these kids all need a mentor or two. You might help them get ready for school in the mornings, lead recreational and music activities, as well as English classes. As you will be involved in some English classes we include the i-to-i TEFL course and supplemental teaching aids to give you ideas for activities.

| Accomodation | Accommodation is included in your project fee. Apartment (self catered with food provided) or homestay in Santo Domingo please speak with the Latin American team for more information, there is limited availability for the apartment. |
| Meals | Two meals a day are included in your project fee. Simple but nutritious breakfasts and dinners will be provided or food will be provided for self catering. Vegetarians are welcome. |
| Activities | A variety of possibilities, including sports, games, arts, crafts, music and field trips. You will also teach English and life skills. |
| Schedule | Monday to Friday, 4 to 5 hours a day.Please note: Semana Santa (Latin America Holy week) will be from 1st to 8th April 2007 and 16th to 23rd March 2008, you will have some disruptions to the placement during this time. |
| Resources | The projects are often under-resourced, but items like paper and pencils can be bought very cheaply in-country, so we suggest a little fundraising before departure to allow you to buy some materials for activities. Basic English language resources you could bring from home would be appreciated. |
