Itinerary
Day 1 Antigua/Monterrico
Transfer from Antigua to Monterrico. This trip takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. Monterrico has the best beach on Guatemala's Pacific coast and has become well known for its two nearby nature preserves: Biotopo Monterrico and Hawaii National Park, as well as the Tortugario Monterrico, a centre that protects the endangered olive turtle. Take a ferry along the Chiquimuilla Canal to get to Monterrico.Day 2 Monterrico
Wake up with the sound of waves, and enjoy the black sand beach that stretches for miles and miles and is a great place to relax and enjoy the sunset. Swimming is not recommended unless you are a strong swimmer due to a strong undertow.Day 3 Monterrico
In Monterrico, you'll meet backpackers from around the world. You can lie in a hammock, eat a veggie burger and enjoy a huge, inexpensive piņa colada. Walking down the street, you'll see the real local flavor, not a shiny facade put on for the tourists. You can visit the animal sanctuary and release a baby turtle into the wild. You get to Monterrico by driving to La Avellana and taking a boat through mangrove swamps for half an hour. It's a gorgeous ride.Day 4 Guatemala
