Itinerary

Days 1-2 La Paz

From the Coca Museum to the Witches' Markets, there is plenty to do and see in La Paz.

Days 3-5 Cochabamba

See South America's biggest hill-top Cristo.

Days 6-7 Sucre

Shop for incredible weavings or seek out the dinosaur tracks.

Days 8-9 Potosi

Underground mining life is the focus in Potosi, but the colonial treasures aboveground are pretty cool too.

Days 10-12 Salar de Uyuni

Strange, striking and surreal, the salt flats of Salar de Uyuni are breathtaking.

Days 13-15 San Pedro de Atacama

The desert fun ends at San Pedro de Atacama, in the middle of an evaporated salt lake.

Days 16-17 La Serena

The Avenida Francisco de Aguirre is a boulevard lined with statues that terminate at a mock-castle pub, and is a great place to start exploring La Serena.

Days 18-21 Santiago

Head to Parque Metropolitano for fresh air or seek out the sights in Santiago's centre - worth seeing is the funky 70s art gallery and museum, the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende.

Days 22-24 Pucon

Set on the foot of active Volcan Villarrica, Pucon is the best place to get involved in outdoor sports.

Days 25-26 Puerto Varas

Relax in surrounds of astounding glacial beauty in Puerto Varas. Take a cruise on the lake perhaps, or explore the pleasant hilltop Parque Philippi.

Days 28-30 Bariloche

It's possible to hike or bike around the base of Cerro Catedral, and in the evenings salsa is the most fun activity around.

Days 31-32 Buenos Aires

The elegant streets of Buenos Aires buzz with a Latin passion for life, and tangoing the night away in a milonga is a favourite local pastime.

Day 33 Colonia

Cross the Rio de la Plata by ferry and explore the winding cobblestone streets of picturesque Colonia del Sacramento.

Days 34-35 Montevideo

Uruguay's capital has a surprising sophistication hidden below its laid-back atmosphere. With excellent museums and beaches, it's a great city to visit.

Days 36-38 Ranch stay

Have fun and lend a helping hand while staying on a ranch. There are jobs to be done but labour is rewarded with delicious home cooking.

Days 39-41 Iguazu Falls

From Argentina and Brazil, take in breathtaking views of these mighty falls - from any angle, they are incredible.

Days 42-43 Parati

Explore the pleasant surrounds of Parati. In the woods there is abundant wildlife, like armadillos and monkeys, and in the bay the warm waters are the perfect temperature for swimming.

Tropical paradise awaits on the spectacular Ilha Grande. Spend days swimming in the Caribbean and sip caipirinhas as the sun goes down.

From Sugar Loaf Mountain to the shores of Ipanema, Rio is a crazy city in a beautiful setting. It's hard not to get caught up in the energy of the locals.

Days 49-52 Salvador

Picturesque beaches, pulsating samba rhythms and a unique African culture make Salvador an interesting destination.

Days 53-54 Olinda

Experience a Brazilian hospitality and friendliness unmatched in bohemian Olinda. Spend nights listening to an excellent array of live music styles.

Days 55-56 Natal

Considered one of Brazil's most attractive cities, Natal has an amazing star-shaped fort with blinding white walls. Set on the tip of a peninsula, it contrasts beautifully with the blue of the sky and the sea.

Days 56-63 Rio Grande do Norte/Ceara

Discover heaven travelling through the Land of Light by bus, buggy and boat. Spend several days exploring the sun, sea and surrounding sand dunes, as well as the magnficiently coloured freshwater lagoons.

Days 64-66 Piaui/Maranhao

The Old Town here is pure colonial style, with steep streets and exterior walls covered in decorative tiles. Take time to explore the many historic buildings and colourful arts and crafts centres.
