Itinerary
Day 1-3, Mexico City, Teotihuacan, San Miguel & Guanajuato
Leaving Mexico City behind, head north to the ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, where you can climb the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon and walk the Avenue of the Dead. Journey to San Miguel Allende and visit the lovely historic towns in Guanajuato, where the Mexican Revolution began almost two hundred years ago.Accommodation: Camping includedDay 4-5, Michoacan
Spend the next two days in the Michoacan highlands, inhabited by the Purepecha Indians who have laced their distinct culture of the past with modern Mexico. Walk the streets of the colonial town of Patzcuaro with its lovely markets and zocalo. Then, travel through rugged mountains to the small village of Angahuan, where we can hike or ride horses to the Paricutin volcano, which erupted only a few decades ago and covered several villages with liquid stone.Accommodation: Camping includedDay 6, Guadalajara
Next, travel to Mexico's second largest city and capital of Jalisco, Guadalajara, home of mariachi bands and tequila. Spend time exploring this city's famous markets and zocalo.Accommodation: 1 night Guadalajara hotel approx US$25 pppn in multi-share rooms paid locally.Day 7-10, Puerto Vallarta & Playa Azul
Drop down from the highlands to the sea and a secluded beach camp near the exciting city of Puerto Vallarta. For the next two days sunbathe, swim, sea kayak or snorkel in the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Take an included boat ride out to the Marietas Island, with its abundance of indisturbed bird and sea life. Continuing down the Pacific Coast, visit the small fishing village of Playa Azul.Accommodation: Camping includedDay 11-13, Acapulco & Taxco
Spend two nights at the world's most spectacular port city, Acapulco. Watch the cliff divers at La Quebrada before going "Loco" and getting a taste of nightlife Mexican-style. Leaving the coast behind, head to the colonial silver-mining town of Taxco, one of Mexico's most picturesque and pleasant places.Accommodation: 3 nights hotel paid approx US$25pppn in multi-share rooms paid locally.Day 14, Mexico City
