Itinerary

Day 16-19, Lake Louise, British Columbia & Vancouver

With the hulking chateau and a fang-like peak on either side, turquoise Lake Louise looks straight off a postcard. No let-up in the beauty as dark conifers and shadowy summits drift by. Join the sun-seeking, rollerblading Vancouverites in Stanley Park or share their shopping tastes along trendy Robson Street. Accommodation: 3 nights camping included

Day 1-2, New York, Finger Lakes & Niagara Falls

Leave the New York City buzz behind to click down a gear or two or push your limits along the testing hill trails of the aptly-named Finger Lakes. Then onto the Great Lakes and the unmistakable Niagara Falls. From the decks of the Maid of the Mist cruise, 'Falls' seems an understatement because, boy, the water absolutely thunders down. Accommodation: Camping included

Day 3-5, Ohio & Chicago

Skirt around Lake Erie then cross Indiana bound for another of the great five: Lake Michigan and the "Windy City", Chicago, famous for music, museums and Lake Shore Drive. Hit the blues groove, drop into a corner bar or seek out heaving dance and hip-hop beats in the hangouts of Wicker Park and Bucktown. Accommodation: 1 night camping included + 2 nights Chicago hotel approx US$45 pppn in multi-share rooms paid locally.

Day 6-8, Minnesota, South Dakota & Black Hills

From the North Star State, span Sioux Indian terrain, where Badlands National Park's expanse of ridged rock draws the eye like a magnet. You'll agree with the Lakota people, from afar the pine-coated hills do appear black. Closer up, Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument await inspection. Accommodation: 3 nights camping included

Day 9-11, Cody, Wyoming & Yellowstone National Park

The Rocky Mountains are next! Named after William Cody (aka Buffalo Bill), the old west is alive and literally kicking here. After all, 'Cody is rodeo', with nightly summer shows. Onto Yellowstone and blaze the awesome trails past granite walls and whooshing geysers, keeping tabs on a whole catalogue of creatures that call the park home. Accommodation: 3 nights camping included

Day 12-15, Montana, Glacier & Banff National Parks

Beyond Montana's 'Big Sky' find trekkers' paradise in Glacier National Park. The alpine meadows, snow-streaked cliffs and glinting lakes sure add a healthy dose of the wow factor. And it doesn't stop here, Banff is next!! Soothe aching limbs in the hot springs, scale Mount Sulphur Mountain by scenic tramway and pound some wildlife-loaded landscapes. Accommodation: Camping included

Day 20-22, Seattle, Oregon & Redwood National Park

Beam yourself up in Seattle! Well, take the glass-fronted elevator up the iconic Space Needle and gaze over the Emerald City. Then beyond the deserted beaches and craggy coves of Oregon to the towering forest giants of Redwood National Park. Accommodation: 3 nights camping included + 1 night en-route hotel in Seattle approx US$45pppn for multi-share room paid locally

Day 23-24, San Francisco

If timings allow, watch the hard-hitters at a baseball game. Then seek out big bay views by cable car and feast on some tasty tidbits from Chinatown. Accommodation: 2 nights en-route hotel approx US$45pppn in multi-share rooms paid locally.

Day 25-26, Yosemite National Park

Get on your bike through canyons and spruce-laden trails or hike to falls fed by Sierra Nevada snow. Either way, this park rocks! Accommodation: Camping included

Day 27-28, Pacific Coast & Los Angeles

Hollywood and its hill-perched sign await as you embark on one final fling with this incredible and diverse continent. Accommodation: Camping included. Tour ends at 17:00 hours in Los Angeles on day 28.
