Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Marrakech
Arrival and transfer to hotel for overnight. Possibility of sightseeing in Marrakech.Day 2 Ouarzazate, Tazzarine (B,D)
Estimated Travel Time: 7 hoursDeparture for the Great South over the splendid High Atlas mountains, through the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2 260m and descent on the South versant into the pre desert landscape surrounding Ouarzazate. Visit of this former Foreign Legion stronghold including the Kasbah Taorirt, former of the ruling immensely influential Glaoui family, called the “Lords of the Atlas”. Possibility of visiting the film studios, one of the most important activities in Ouarzazate of today – if no production is under way. Continuation over the beginnings of the Anti Atlas presenting fantastic rock formations and descent to the magnificent Drâa Valley to Tazzarine for dinner and overnight in a permanent Nomad camp in the oasis.Day 3 Lamharche (B,L,D)
Estimated Travel Time: 4 hoursVisit of the old village of Tazzarine, dating from the 18th century and continuation by track roads into the wild beauty of the desert of Lamharche; dinner and overnight in camp by the dunes.Day 4 Merzouga (B,L,D)
Estimated Travel Time: 6 hoursOn track roads crossing the desert landscape to the Erg Chebbi desert and the highest sand dunes of Morocco, in Merzouga. Exploration of the endless dunes, end of afternoon camel ride for 2 hours to a Nomad camp for dinner and overnight.Day 5 Erfoud, Tineghir, Todgha Gorges (B)
Estimated Travel Time: 5 hoursEarly morning departure on camel back to Merzouga, continuation via Erfoud through a stone desert to Tineghir. Visit of the vast palm groves of Tineghir and the magnificent Gorges of Todgha. Overnight in an auberge in the Gorges.Day 6 Dades Gorges, Ouazazate, Ait Ben Haddou (B)
Estimated Travel Time: 3.5 hoursVisit to the very different but as splendid Gorges of Dadès and continuation along the “ Route of a Thousand Kasbahs” in the verdant Dadès Valley, dotted with old Kasbahs. Lunch break in Ouarzazate and continuation to the village of Aït Ben Haddou, with its famous Kasbah, protected by the Unesco as World Heritage and site for innumerable film productions taking advantage of the picturesque backdrop of the Kasbah. Visit of the Kasbah and overnight.Day 7 Marrakech (B,D)
Estimated Travel Time: 4 hoursReturn over the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech; pm at leisure to visit this fascinating city including the Souks and the famous Jemaa El Fna Square. Dinner in the Square at one of its open air stalls and overnight.Trip Details
