Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Lima

Arrive in Lima at any time.

Day 2 Lima / Tarapoto

To get a feel for colonial Lima, take a cab to the Plaza des Armas and watch the changing of the Palace Guard in the afternoon. Walk the streets surrounding the Jirón de la Unión for great examples of Spanish-colonial architecture and to get a taste for life in a large South American city.

Day 3 Tarapoto / Chachapoyas

This morning you can wake yourself up with a dip in the pools of the Ahuashiyacu waterfall, a short trek from town. In the afternoon we head north to Chachapoyas, a city nestled in the cloud forest where it is said that the Chachapoyan chief betrayed the Inca allowing for a Spanish victory in the area.

Day 4 Chachapoyas / Karajia (L,D)

Hike through stunning scenery to the fascinating burial site of Karajia. After a picnic lunch, head off to your mountainside campsite but not before stopping at Luya to pick up supplies at the local market.

Day 5 Chachapoyas / Gocta Waterfall (B,L,D)

Feel like an modern-day explorer as you trek through dense jungle, filled with toucans, hummingbirds and monkeys, to the Gocta Waterfall. Discovered by the Western world in 2002, it is verified as the third highest uninterrupted waterfall on the planet!

Day 6 Chachapoyas / Kuelap (B,L)

Take an early morning hike to the impressive yet seldom-visited archaeological site of Kuelap, a massive Pre-Incan fortress. Learn about the history of the site and the Chachapoyan Cloud people from a local guide.

Day 7 Chachapoyas / Chiclayo

Say goodbye to the mountains and head to the "city of friendship". Chiclayo is a welcoming coastal city that lives up to its name.

Day 8 Chiclayo

Enjoy exploring the city of Chiclayo and surrounding highlights. Optional visit to the famous Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum or to the coastal town of Pimentel Beach.

Day 9-11 Máncora

Relax in the sunshine beach town of Máncora. Take optional surfing lessons and enjoy the abundant fresh seafood.

Day 12 Máncora / Lima

Following breakfast, take a bus ride north to the airport outside Tumbes for our return flight to Lima.

Day 13 Lima

This day is yours to explore Lima on your own.

Day 14-15 Puno

Fly to Juliaca and drive to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Enjoy a day trip out on the lake to visit Taquile and/or Amantani islands, stopping on the floating reed islands of the Uros people, before returning to Puno for a second night.

Day 16-18 Cuzco

Take in spectacular views of the Altiplano region on this full day of travel from Puno to Cuzco. Enjoy scenic stops along the way before arriving in Cuzco; the evening is free to relax. Spend a free day exploring this delightful town on foot, go horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or visit the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a massive Inca fortress overlooking the city.

Day 19-20 Aguas Calientes /Machu Picchu/ Cuzco

Head up to the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu. Get up early to avoid the crowds and enjoy the ruins at your own pace.

Day 21 Cuzco / Lima

Do some last minute shopping or sightseeing in Cuzco before flying to Lima for one last night out on the town.
