Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Winnipeg
Upon arrival in Winnipeg, you will be met and taken to your hotel in town. This evening, gather for dinner and an informal orientation on your northern adventure. DDay 2: Train to Churchill
During the day, you have a chance to explore historic Winnipeg and the outlying areas, including the Oak Hammock Marsh, where you have the opportunity to learn about northern prairie and marsh environs and see a variety of northern wildlife. You also have the opportunity to visit the Manitoba Museum, consistently voted the best museum in Canada (closed Mondays except for our tours). Here, gain insight into the pioneer past of this historic region and the native cultures of the North. This evening, after dinner, you board your train to Churchill. B,L,DDay 3: Train to Churchill
You leave the southern prairies traveling into the boreal forest, disembarking to explore the sub-Arctic environs. The train is quite comfortable, and each cabin has its own bathroom and large windows. The ÂTundra Train provides a unique method for exploring the northland. Watch out your window at night for the Northern Lights.Days 4-7: Churchill
Arrive in Churchill early in the morning. Activities will include three trips in the beluga whale-watch boats. Small Zodiacs will give you a close-up, eye-level look at belugas. A larger vessel will take you across the river to visit Fort Prince of Wales, the site where Danish explorer, Jens Monk, settled in 1619 and where the Hudson's Bay Company established its original trading post. Facemasks will allow you to submerge your faces into the clear river and observe whales under water, and a hydrophone will enable you to listen to the songs of the beluga. There is no better place on earth to experience intimate encounters with these mystical creatures. A vehicle will transport you to the tundra, where you'll cook out on the shores of the massive Hudson Bay. You may see caribou with calves, snowy owls, Arctic foxes, and ptarmigans, as well as plenty of other birdlife. Of course, there is always a chance to see polar bears. At this time of year, it is not uncommon to find mothers and their cubs.Day 8: Fly From Churchill to Winnipeg
After a free morning to visit the Eskimo Museum with its wonderful collection of native Arctic artifacts and time to pick up some authentic carvings and other souvenirs, you transfer to the airport for your return flight to Winnipeg. Depending on flight schedules, you will either have a farewell lunch in Churchill or a final dinner in Winnipeg. B,L/DDay 9: Return Home
After breakfast, you transfer you to the airport for your return flight home. BTrip Details
