Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Winnipeg
Upon arrival in Winnipeg, you will be met and transferred to the luxurious and historic Hotel Fort Garry. In the evening, gather for dinner and an informal orientation. DDay 2: Winnipeg and Train to Churchill
As an introduction to the Northern environment, youll explore historic Winnipeg and the Manitoba Museum, known for its impressive galleries and exceptional life-size exhibits reflecting the human and natural heritage of the province. Attend a special presentation at the museums planetarium focused on the science of the Northern Lights and how to best capture their magic on film. Later, your guide may continue your introduction to the northern environment and its wildlife with a slide show and discussion. After dinner in Winnipeg, you will board the evening train to Churchill. B,L,DDay 3: Train to Churchill
You leave the southern prairies, traveling through boreal forest on your way to Churchills frozen tundra. The Tundra Train is quite comfortable, and each cabin has its own bathroom and large windows. At night, watch out your window for the Northern Lights. B,L,DDays 4-6: Churchill
Upon arrival in Churchill, transfer to your hotel, fit yourself for gear, and take a brief tour of this historic northern outpost. Here you gain a unique perspective of the northern environs and insight into the lives of its native people. For thousands of years, rich and vibrant nations have flourished against incredible adversities in this harsh Arctic environment, and a glimpse into their lives will be a memorable experience. Your adventures include an exciting dog sled excursion across the tundra, a small-group visit to the Eskimo Museum, and a cultural program presented by indigenous northerners. You may even build a traditional igloo! As night falls, you are captivated by the spectacle of aurora activities from the comfort of heated viewing domes. Often, the lights begin as white streaks across the sky and develop into patterns, changing colors and providing a vibrant display of blue, green, yellow, and red. For centuries, the phenomenon of the Northern Lights was a mystery, inspiring a host of mythical explanations for its occurrence. For example, the Hudson Bay Inuit see the lights as the magical display of their ancestors souls dancing in the sky. B,L,DDay 7: Churchill / Winnipeg
Depending on flight schedules, you may spend the morning in Churchill visiting the famed Arctic Trading Post or the Northern Co-op where you can pick up authentic native artwork. Conclude your expedition with a farewell lunch in Churchill or a final dinner in Winnipeg. DDay 8: Winnipeg / Home
After breakfast, transfer you to the airport for your return flight home.Trip Details
