Trip Image Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life. Join a group of like minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural Peruvian village. Located high among the spectacular Andes Mountains our projects focus on assisting children and impoverished communities who, despite their harsh living conditions, always have a big smile ready. Split your time between a building project and teaching at a local school on this 28 day project. Working alongside local builders, staying in the community and spending time with the kids, you'll become an essential part of the community.

Itinerary

Days 1-2 Cuzco/Rural Project

Start the day with a group meeting in the elegant colonial style town of Cuzco before heading off to your new rural home. Arriving at the village you'll be greeted by community representatives and will have time to settle in to your new home and have a look at the building site. Spend the first evening planning your first day in school and enjoying the first of many home cooked meals by our local cook or host family.

Days 3-14 Teaching and Building

Enjoy the daily routine of building, teaching and playing with the kids. A typical day is spent building until lunch and then teaching at the school on a rota basis until 6pm. When you're not teaching there is plenty of time to return to the building site or plan your next lesson.

Days 15-27 Cultural Development

Each day there is the opportunity to explore the area after school and organise activities with the community. There are many opportunities that await you in your village. You can help set up nutrition programmes or support recycling or energy saving projects. Take the chance to visit the local clinic and learn about medical care or simply help out on farms milking cows or weeding. The key is get to know your village and how they need your support. You may be able to join local adults in their cooperative groups, teach them English and learn their skills from dancing to weaving. We also can look for opportunities to play sport with youth groups - football is always a winner!

Day 28 Cuzco

Sadly, it's time to return to Cuzco. Celebrate a fantastic four weeks with a sense of pride in your building and teaching work and new found friendships, with your team and community, that will last long past your time in Peru.
