Peru (MAD) Project - 42days

Trip Image Join a group of like-minded volunteers to experience and contribute to daily life in a rural Peruvian village. Located high among the spectacular Andes Mountains our projects focus on assisting children and impoverished communities who, despite their harsh living conditions, always have a big smile ready. Split your time between a building project and teaching at a local school on this 42 day project. Working alongside local builders, staying in the community and spending time with the kids, you'll become an essential part of the community.

Itinerary

Days 1-2 Cuzco/Rural Project

Your MAD project begins among the Inca ruins and colonial buildings of Cuzco. Meet your fellow volunteers before heading out into rural Peru to your new village home. After meeting community representatives settle in to your accommodation and explore the village.

Days 3-14 Teaching and Building

Be sure to take a photo of the building site because it's sure to change greatly over the next few weeks. Spend mornings working on the site - brick laying, plastering, painting - all in the company of your fellow volunteers and local builders. In the afternoons, spend time teaching and playing with the kids at the school. In the evenings you'll enjoy home cooked meals and have time to relax with new friends, plan the next day's lessons and learn some of the Spanish or Quechua.

Days 15-28 Cultural Development

As you begin to know the community and their needs there is plenty of opportunity to take on side projects. Start up a football team, teach English to the adults, put on a play and learn more about the Andean culture as you share your stories and histories.

Days 28-41 Local Expert

As time progresses you'll really feel a part of the community. Your building project will really be coming along now too. Be sure to make the most of your time here by taking hikes on the weekend or visiting local friends for a meal.

Day 42 Cuzco

Sadly, it's time to return to Cuzco. Celebrate a fantastic project with a sense of pride in your building and teaching work and new found friendships, with your team and community, that will last long past your time in Peru.
