Itinerary
Days 1-2: Aberdeen, Scotland (Embark)/Orkney Islands
Board the Polar Pioneer in Aberdeen, Scotland and set sail for the Orkney Islands, where Stone Age villages like Skara Brae, relics of Viking occupation, and the wild sea stack Old Man of Hoy vie for your attention.Day 3: The Shetlands
Sea cliffs and wildflowers greet you in the Shetlands, home to thriving seabird rookeries and astounding archaeological digs like the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age settlement of Jarlshof.Days 4-5: Bergen, Norway/Runde Island
Today, enter Norway at Bergen, gateway to the fjords, and explore the historic waterfront then on to Runde Island, southern Norway's biggest bird sanctuary with nesting puffins, kittiwakes and sea eagles. Waterfalls and dramatic scenery feature in Geraingerfjord.Days 6-7: Norwegian fishing villages/Torget Island
Sailing north, visit the charming fishing villages of Grip, Sor-Gjaeslingan or Rorvik and land at Torget Island to inspect the bizarre rock formation Torghatten, a legendary hole in the mountain created by a troll's arrow.Days 8-10: Exploring the Lofoten Islands
Cod fishing villages nestle against towering mountains in the Lofoten Islands, one of the most picturesque parts of Norway. You may stroll through the living museum of the village of à , Zodiac cruise beneath breathtaking fjords and hike around the scenic backcountry of these enchanting islands. You explore Trollfjord, renowned for its beauty and watch for passing orca, minke and sperm whales off Andeness.Days 11-12: Alta/Bear Island
Stop at Alta to view 6000 year old petroglyphs, then sail past the stark granite North Cape, Europe's northernmost point. At remote Bear Island, Zodiac around lofty sea stacks, hike amid tundra wildflowers and encounter Arctic fox.Days 13-14: Spitsbergen/Longyearbyen (Disembark)
Today reach Spitsbergen near Stormbukta, to be greeted by cliffs alive with Arctic fulmars, and kittiwakes, and visit Hornsund, a stunning fjord where polar bears may be seen. Disembark in Longyearbyen and bid farewell to new friends.Trip Details
