Itinerary
Day 1: Reykjavik, Iceland
Embark the Prince Albert II and depart on your exciting 16-day Expedition Trips arctic cruise of Greenland. This evening, you will be introduced to your Expedition Leaders and receive a Zodiac briefing.Day 2: At Sea
Spend the day crossing the iceberg-laden Denmark Strait meeting fellow explorers as you become acquainted with the luxurious amenities found onboard the Prince Albert II. At night, attend a a special welcoming cocktail party whereat the Captain will introduce his senior officers and various members of the crew.Day 3: Skjoldungen, Greenland
Today is spent exploring the wild, rugged and ice-packed fjords of GreenlandÂs southeastern coast and the Skjoldungen Sound. Surrounded by astonishing mountains, spectacular glaciers and undisturbed wildlife is a place the native Inuit call Kalaallit Nunaat or Land of the People. Take full advantage of opportunities to go ashore with the shipÂs own natural history staff, who will help discover the breathtaking natural splendour of the area.Day 4: Prince Christian Sound, Greenland
TodayÂs journey takes you to Prince Christian Sound, one of south GreenlandÂs most dramatic natural features. As you navigate this stunning fjord you are engulfed and surrounded by the crisp arctic air, placid water and the aroma of ice as waterfalls stream down sharp, wrinkled mountainsides. Catch a glimpse of the constant state of change and movement that is the polar ice cap and set out via Zodiac to discover this pristine world of bays, inlets and glaciers.Day 5: Qaqortoq / Julianehab, Greenland
After a morning at sea, arrive at Qaqortoq where you set afoot for an afternoon of discovery amongst Southern GreenlandÂs largest village, populated with striking primary coloured wood colonial buildings. Highlights include a guided tour of the towns open-air fish and meat market the Qaqortoq Museum. Enjoy a traditional Greenlandic kayak demonstration or folk dance performance before returning for a gourmet dinner on board.Day 6: Qassiarsuk, Greenland
Begin the day following in the footsteps of ancient Viking explorers like Erik the Red and his son Leif Eriksson, with an exploration of Qassiarsuk including the site of the first Christian church ever built in North America. Back aboard the Prince Albert II, enjoy a spot of lunch while repositioning south toward the settlement of Igaliku where a hike with ship experts and local guides exploring the Medieval Norse cultural landscape awaits.Day 7: Cruise Arsuk Brae, Greenland
Beautiful, wild and the epitome of expedition cruising is embodied in your tour of Arsuk Brae. In this seldom visited, vast white wilderness, listen for the majestic sounds of arctic silence. Aboard Zodiac, journey up to the receding glacier, witnessing bird cliffs and the smaller, but magnificent Fox Havn glacier.Day 8: At Sea
Bid farewell to Greenland and continue your journey westward across the Davis Strait toward the Americas and the Canadian Arctic. Binoculars in hand, watch for massive icebergs that look like icy blue gems littered throughout the strait; or whales feeding in the rich ocean waters and polar bears freely drifting aboard ice floes.Day 9: Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada
Begin your foray into Canada in the town of Iqaluit located at the head of Frobisher Bay, an inlet of the North Atlantic extending towards the southeastern Baffin Island. After immigration, go ashore and explore the edges of CanadaÂs, Âtrue north as your shipÂs experts along with local guides point the way. Explore rich Inuit artwork at local musuems before returning aboard for dinner and a relaxing evening at your leisure.Day 10: Cruise & Explore Lower Savage Island, Nunavut, Canada
Today drop anchor in the rick ocean waters between Frobisher Bay and the Hudson Strait and hunt for the elusive polar bear. Via Zodiac, cruise the southeastern tip of Baffin Island known as the Lower Savage Islands searching for these incredible and awe inspiring creatures.Day 11: Cruise & Explore Button & Killinik Islands, Nunavut, Canada
Today is spent exploring a mass of impressive cragged islands with sheer cliffs projecting hundreds of feet skyward, known as the Button Islands. Dominated by giant crystals strewn in every direction, and brilliant blue waters, embark on a full exploration in search of adventure and wildlife such as shearwaters, kittiwakes, fulmars, Glaucous gulls, American pipits, Snow buntings, ptarmigans, Artic foxes, and walrus. Midday set sail for the remote Killinek Island at the northernmost extremity of the Labrador peninsula where ice floes of the Hudson Strait attract migrating walrus and polar bear.Day 12: Cruise & Explore Saqlek Fjord, Labrador, Canada
Abrupt, stately mountains, deep fjords, finger lakes and spectacular rock walls are all products of glaciations making Saqlek Fjord one of CanadaÂs most incredible landscapes. This morning explore this impressive fjord, and if conditions permit, attempt a brief expeditionary landing. The shipÂs natural history staff will provide insight and highlights of the area and introduce local Inuit fishermen and culture.Day 13: Hopedale, Labrador, Canada
Home to the worldÂs largest caribou herd and phenomenal fly-fishing, Hopedale is surrounded by the striking scenery of deep forests, a treeless tundra, majestic mountains and a vast grey-blue North Atlantic Ocean. A myriad of wildlife is ever present here, so be on the look out for black bears, polar bears, eagles, osprey, terns, puffins, and, of course, caribou and huskies. The region affords the opportunity to to observe traditional Inuit artisanship firsthand.Day 14: At Sea
As you voyage deeper into CanadaÂs eastern coast, enjoy some time out on deck keeping an eye out for seabirds, dolphin, seals and migrating Humpback, Fin and Blue whales, or listen to additional presentations by your expert natural history staff in The Theatre or in the comfort of your own accommodation. Enjoy the finest cigars and cognacs at The Humidor or indulge in any of the other special amenities offered on board.Day 15: Battle Harbor, Battle Island, Labrador / L'Anse aux Meadow, Labrador, Canada
Step back in time as you meander the streets of this painstakingly restored fishing village that salutes the Labrador lifestyle of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Enjoy a presentation by local guides about the Newfoundland and Labrador fishing industry and partake in a Canadian Âcrab fest and presentation of traditional coastal Labradorean music. Continue southward whilst enjoying a spot of lunch aboard the Prince Albert II. After midday, land on the shores of LÂAnse aux Meadows via Zodiac to explore this natural and unspoiled UNESCO World Heritage Site.Day 16: Twillengate, Newfoundland, Canada
Today begins with a tour of 114Âyear-old lookout known as Long Point Lighthouse providing a breathtaking panorama of the bay and coastal cliffs. Next visit The Prime Berth Museum and enjoy a presentation of the townÂs historic fishing industry. The Prince Albert II will arrive at St. Johns Newfoundland in the morning on the 15th of August, and go alongside. After breakfast, disembark Prince Albert II.Day 17: St. Johns Newfoundland, Canada
