Itinerary

Day 1 Quito

Get a feel for Ecuadorian life on a stroll around Quito's quaint Old Town, exploring its churches, brightly painted colonial buildings and fascinating museums. One of the most attractive cities in South America, Quito sits at an altitude of 2,850 m and winds its way through a valley that eventually drops down to the Amazon Basin.

Days 2-5 San Cristobal

Experience a side of the Galapagos rarely seen by visitors. Get to know local fishermen as privileged dinner guests in their island homes. Witness conservation at work on a visit to the Jatun Sacha Reserve where enthusiastic volunteers are working hard to protect San Cristobal's delicate ecosystem. Get in on the action and help out planting native trees.

Day 6 Floreana/Isabela

Pay a visit to a baby-tortoise rearing centre to learn about these fascinating and adorable, creatures. Hike through the island's arid forests, passing dense mangrove groves and a glassy lake dotted with bright pink flamingos.

Day 7 Isabela

Studded with volcanoes and home to vast frigate and penguin colonies, Isabela Island is an ideal stop. Hike to steaming volcanoes, including the formidable Sierra Negro Volcano that dominates the island's skyline. After seeing all the action above ground, pull on a snorkel and swim amongst the teeming fish life just below the surface.

Days 8 Santa Cruz

The remote highlands of Santa Cruz Island are the perfect place the while away the hours. Enjoy a barbecue lunch amongst the shady fruit trees on an organic farm then wander around the amazing lava tunnels that stretch over 1 km long.

Day 9 Santa Cruz/Quito

Get up close to tortoises at the Charles Darwin Research Station. Stop by the baby-tortoise house where hatchlings and young tortoises learn to take their first steps, then head to the adult enclosure to meet the Galapagos giants face-to-face. Say goodbye to the Galapagos and head back to Quito where there's plenty of time to check out the city's bustling entertainment scene.

Day 10 Quito

Explore the markets around Quito's Old Town or head to La Cima de la Libertad, a monument on the site of the Battle of Pichincha, for breathtaking views over the city.
