Itinerary
Day 1 Quito
Get acquainted with both old and new Quito, exploring its colonial Old Town and its sleek modern north. Acclimatise to the soaring 2,850 m altitude by hanging out in one of the city's many scenic cafes. Alernatively, head straight to the exquisitely restored Plaza de la Independencia to admire the colonial architecture and watch Ecuadorian life go by.Days 2-4 Jungle Yacht
Get off the beaten track and travel by motorised canoe down the Aguarico River to the jungle yacht that will be home for the next three days. Spot prehistoric caiman and listen to the call of passing monkeys as you continue along the Zabalo River and venture deep into the isolated Cofan Reserve. Discover the secrets of the local flora and fauna on a jungle walk, then visit Zabalo, a small Cofan Community, to participate in community activities like preparing casabe, the local bread, and brewing yoco, the tipple of choice. Spend a memorable day on the Black Water River spotting the unique pink river dolphins, then try your hand at fishing with the locals on a visit to a Kichwa family.Days 5-6 Quito
Head back to Quito for a final night in Ecuador and the opportunity to sample some of the capital's famous nightlife. Why not try some local food to celebrate the end of this fascinating jungle journey?Trip Details
