Traveler Article

This is the area that will change every month. There are a couple of ways to develop your guide:

  • Current info on your area for that month. Concerts, festivals, events that happen only in that month.

  • If there’s not much going on, you can write an article that develops one of the areas in the left column. For example, write a guide to accommodation in your area.

These points also apply if someone is already doing a guide to your area. A different perspective is always valuable, so don’t be shy.

Headers to label each section are helpful. It keeps the readers focused and helps them better understand with a quick glance what your online guide contains. Headers like this..

    Events in August

    1. Festival of Colors

    2. It’s warm out, so…

    New Restaurant in Town

A new restaurant just opened…great clams and biscuits!

    Peoplewatching

The Buckystar Cafe offers great views of all sorts. Have a Latte, Latte, Skim Frapachino Latte and watch these folks do their thing.

The 3 headers above are just examples. Choose ones that suit you and help describe a part of your report in a glance.

    Submitting Your Article

Articles can be emailed to me at Hydrolix@BootsnAll.com as a Word document attachment or as the body of the email. You may also be able save this template as an HTML file onto your computer and type your article straight in; if you have an HTML editor.

    The Deadline

The deadline for submissions is the 25th of the previous month. Meaning April 25th for a May article, May 25th for June, etc. Submissions can be sent by email or Word document attachment to an email.

    Images

2 or 3 images (pictures) to go with your article would be great. You can have more, but they would need to be smaller.

How to Pull an Image of the Web

If you don’t have a scanner, but you know of places on the web that have images you’d like to include……right-click your mouse button over the image, select “save image as…” and send it as an attachment with your article. Please make every effort to give credit to the photographer/website.

    Link Your Website

If you have your own website, we’d be happy to link it to your article. Just give us your URL with your article.

With your help, we’d like to build an online travel guide to your city/region. A collection of articles that provide excellent info for someone new to the area.

Check out the Eugene Travel Guide as an example.

    Most importantly….HAVE FUN!!!

    General Info Section

This area does not have to change much from month to month. Some of the topics below can be expanded upon into an article of their own and linked back to this area of your guide.

Research some of the areas listed below and edit as necessary as time goes on.

    Quirky Facts

How the city got it’s name, odd figures in history, weird stuff, etc

    Geography

Where is it? We suggest going to MapBlast.com and finding a relevant map to link to your guide.

    Accommodation

Useful examples of places to stay in different budget ranges, or links to websites of same.

    Transport

How to get to/from the airport; public transport systems; tips on passes or deals: or links to sources that have this info.

    Money

Type of currency; info or links to info on exchange offices, etc. What’s a reasonable budget for a day in your city/region. Are there things that are cheaper or more expensive than in other places.

Other areas you might include or write whole articles about and link to this column:

    Cheap Eats/Dining Out

    Pubs and Clubs

    Internet Cafes

    Coffee Shops

    Arts/ Music Scene

    The Outdoors

Weird and Crazy Stuff – non-guide book stuff, little known facts, public toilets, etc

    The Author

Something about yourself. A short description of you and why you like the city/region you are covering; what boots you wear, that type of thing.
