Types of Members – What is a Longhair and a Romper Stomper?
At BootsnAll, we ask our members to place themselves in one of three categories. This allows other members, searching the database, to get an idea about the type of person they might be emailing.
The categories are based on a three tier system:
Longhairs
These are our most involved members. They are always keen to meet and talk to new people, especially travellers. They are open-minded and more easy-going. Members that develop email relationships with Longhairs may be invited to crash on their floor.
Short Back & Sides
These members are a little more reserved. They are keen to meet new travellers, but less likely or unable to offer other members a place to stay. They would prefer to meet for lunch or drinks; show you about town and give you advice on how to get about. However, if you make a good impression, a ‘Short’ may invite you to stay.
Romper Stompers
In keeping with the hair analogy and not the members’ temperament, Romper Stompers get their name from an Australian film. These members would rather develop a solid email relationship with other members first. Contact with them would be limited to information, advice and recommendations via email. Of course, there is nothing to stop these members developing specific relationships as time goes by.
This is, of course, only meant to be a rough guide. We do screen all of the membership applications, but we would encourage members to feel comfortable with another member before inviting them into your home. As a traveller, it is always a good idea to at least be in touch via email with the person you are hoping to be dropping in on. Members can change their category as they please in either direction by editing their profile within the database.
