Intro. Welcomes readers to the guide, informs them about what they can expect to read about here. Also gives reader an idea of who the author is in the context of the travel guide. Back to top
Places to Stay. Initially focus on the budget end of the scale ie: hostels, guesthouses and campgrounds. Eventually aim for separate sections containing reviews/listings of hotels (all ranges), B&B’s, etc. Back to top
Places to Eat. Don’t need to go out and rate every single eatery. Go through the ones you know, or that you know provide good value. Give your honest opinion. As you try a new one, add it in-good or bad. People need to know where to go, and where to avoid! Back to top
Places to Drink. Don’t need to go out and rate every single bar and pub. Go through the ones you know, or that you know provide good value. Give your honest opinion. As you try a new one, add it in-good or bad. People need to know where to go, and where to avoid! Back to top
Excursions (trips, hikes, etc.). Day trips, overnight stays to areas outside the city limits or nearby. Can also list good tours, hiking groups, profiles of nearby destinations, etc. Back to top
Internet Cafes & Coffee Shops. Could be broken into two sections if there is enough of each. Where are the cheapest places to check email; what are the coolest, hippest places to be seen drinking coffee? Back to top
Links (to regional and related websites). As you go along, add sites that are good sources of info on the area. They can be Geocities-type sites, or the official site of the local football team. Include whatever you come across that gives you a version of the city that’s not just the official tourism spiel. Back to top
Local Attractions (museums, local ruins etc.). What is your city/area famous for, where you can find museums, galleries, local ruins, famous buildings, etc. If applicable, list days when you can get in free or when the tourist hoards will be elsewhere. Back to top
How to Get There. Basic info on airports, rail and bus connections. Major centres close by if any, etc. Stepping off the plane/train/bus in a new place can be intimidating unless you know what your next step is and how much it should cost you. Back to top
How to Get Around. All local transport options, including buses, taxis, trains, bicycles, walking, all-day travel passes, discounts for students, etc., plus useful advice on using each, such as day passes for bus or rail, or how to keep from getting gouged by taxi drivers, etc. Back to top
Local Services (banks, medical, embassies). Locations of embassies, money exchanges, banks, hospitals, travel clinics, tourist information, job centres. This might not be exciting, but very handy when you actually need it. Back to top
Things to Do. Stuff that you should do while you’re in town. Walking tours, cool beaches, sunset spots, local dive bars at happy hour, people-watching spots, etc. Back to top
