Cheap Eats, Eugene


For those on a tight budget, Eugene has some bargain places
to eat. Some are specials on certain days, but others are
great value everyday.


Geppetto’s Pizzeria: 868 W Park St
On Mondays and Tuesdays, you can get a massive slice of cheese
pizza for $1.50 and a drink for $1. Even the biggest appetite
should feel full after two of these monsters.
If you walk thru Geppetto’s, you’ll come to their Ice Creamery,
which will be packed in the summer.

Pizza Pipeline: downtown Charnelton St
Seven days a week, before 4pm, you can get 3 slices of pizza
and a large drink for $2.50. They have different toppings to choose from,
and you even get to keep the cup!

Pizza Pete’s: 2673 Willamette St
NOT pizza, funnily enough. On Tuesdays, it’s all-you-can-eat
pasta. Choose from red or white sauce and stuff yourself stupid
for $3.25/3.75.

Newman’s Fish Co: 1545 Willamette St
Everyday, you can get good Cod and chips for $4, or Halibut
and chips for $5.50.

Jamie’s: 1810 Chambers St
Excellent, decent-sized burgers for $5-$6.

American Food


Steelhead Brewery: 199 E.5th Av
Great traditional American food and good beer at reasonable prices. Also pasta, soups and home-brewed root beer. Meals from $5-$10.


West Bros BBQ & Brewery: 844 Olive St
Traditional American foods, microbrews and great steaks. Voted Best BBQ and Best Steaks. Meals from $5-$15+.


Cafes


Cafe Siena: 853 W.13th Av
Wide variety of breakfast and light lunch meals. Omlettes, scrambled eggs and chilaquiles. Meals for less than $5.


High Street Cafe: 1243 High St
Wide variety of burgers, pastas, salads and vegetarian meals. They brew their own beer and have a great outdoor area. Meals from $5-$10.


Chinese


China Blue: 879 E.13th Av
Highly rated Chinese and Indonesian food. Meals from $5-$10.


Ocean Sky: 1601 Chambers St
Szechwan and Hunan menu. Voted Best Chinese. Meals from $5-$10.


Delis


Rosewaters Deli: 44 W.Broadway St
Vegetarian dishes, salads, burgers. Outdoor seating and meals from under $5.


Schlotzsky’s Deli: 3215 W.11th Av
Hot deli sandwiches, gourmet pizzas, salads and soups. Voted Best Deli. Meals for less than $5.


Indian


Taste of India: 2495 Hilyard St
Seafood, chicken and lamb Indian dishes as well as vegetarian selections. Voted Best Indian. Meals from $5.


Anatolia: 992 Willamette St
Half Indian, Half Greek menu that was voted Best Mediterranean. Meals from $5-$10.


International


Cafe Zenon: 898 Pearl St
Voted Best Everything. Lots of awards for their Greek, Indian, Mexican and American cuisine. Bit pricey at $10-$15+ per meal.


Ring of Fire: 1099 Chambers St
Not a by-product of a heavy night on the Indian food, but a wide range of Pacific Rim and Thai food. Meals from $5-$10.

Italian


Jo Federigo’s: 259 E.5th Av
Spaghetti bar, vege dishes and daily seafood specials. Also doubles as a jazz club until late. Meals from $10-$15.


Mona Lizza: 830 Olive St
Wood-fired pizza, antipasti, and many other Italian dishes. Meals from $5-$15.


Ambrosia: 174 E.Broadway
Voted Best Pasta and Italian. Wood-fired pizza, calzone, pasta and their own microbrews. Meals from $10-$15

Cool sushi bar and table-top stir-fry cooking. Lobster, chicken, scallops and vege/tofu dishes. Meals from $10-$15+.

Healthy Mexican food that is never fried. Salsa bar. Meals from less than $5.

Breakfast, lunch and supper at this place. Given the nod by two chefs we know. Meals for less than $5.


Chez Ray’s North Beach Cafe: 30 W.10th Av
Gourmet Mediterranean, vegetarian, soup and fresh bread. Meals from $5-$10.


Oregon Electric Station: 27 E.5th Av
Steaks, pasta, vege dishes. Voted Best Steaks and Place for Large Gatherings. Meals from $10-$15+.


SE Asian


Mekalas: 5th St Market
Excellent Thai food and exotic salads. Voted Best Thai or Vietnamese restaurant. Meals for $5-$10.


Yi Shen Vietnamese: 1075 Chambers St
Spiced salads, soups, chicken, pork and tofu dishes. Voted Best New Restaurant. Meals from less than $5.


Vegetarian


Govinda’s Vege Buffet: 270 E.8th Av
Buffet with all-you-can-eat option. Soups, pastas, stir-fry veges and salad bar. Voted Best AYCE Buffet. Meals from $5-$10.


Keystone Cafe: cnr W.5th & Lawrence

International vegetarian cuisine with organic produce. Homemade desserts and ice-cream. Voted Best Vegetarian, and Best Ice-Cream. Meals from $5-$15.


Sam Bond’s Garage: 407 Blair Blvd
Organic vegetarian and vegan dishes available until late. Exotic pizzas and unusual beers. Meals for less than $5.

General Info Section

Quirky Facts
Downtown Eugene is centered around the little hill called Skinner’s butte. Principal Skinner from “The Simpson’s” was named after this inconspicuous mound.

Geography
Eugene, Oregon is located in the Central Willamette Valley. It is 8 hours drive north of San Francisco by I-5 and 5 hours south of Seattle by the same road.

Accommodation
There is a youth hostel on 2352 Willamette street. Rates are $12 a night or $85 per week. (541.349.0589).

There are many middle of the road motels that can be kinda dirty, but are cheap in the $20-$40 per night range.

Hilton Hotel has a massive structure for the spenders.

There is a cute little B&B in downtown Eugene called the Oval Door Bed & Breakfast.


Transport
Eugene is one of the main stops on the road between Seattle and San Francisco. All buses and trains stop here.

Lane Transit Department (LTD) has an extensive bus sytem throught the Eugene/Springfield area. Rides cost a $1 US or if you buy a pack of tokens, 75 cents each.

Money
US currency. A minimum budget for Eugene would be around 0 dollars per day if you slept outside and begged for food. If you want a roof over your head and cook for yourself at the hostel, $20 per day would be reasonable.
