Les Trois Mousquetaires go to France, Italy and maybe a few other places #12

France so far
France and the U.S. are totally different!!!!!

People are allowed to smoke inside everywhere! When we got off the plane all I could smell was smoke. It wasn’t very pleasant. You have to pay to go to the bathroom! I couldn’t believe it.

The cars here are really weird. They look like little Moon Buggies. The French are sort of crazy drivers. I’m surprised they don’t get in wrecks. When we went by the Arc de Triomphe the Place de l’Etoile was chaos. There weren’t any lines on the road or anything! I guess that’s why my mom doesn’t want to drive in Paris.

It’s not as hot as it is in Dallas, Texas! The Metro stations are really convenient, and I think we’re getting the hang of switching stations. So far we have been to Notre Dame, Champs Elysées, Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, Sainte Chapelle, and the Arc de Triomphe. There was a HUGE line to get into Notre Dame so we didn’t go inside. Instead we walked around it. Many times!

Champs Elysées was really busy. I don’t know how someone can drive on that street. The Sacre Coeur was really beautiful, but it was under renovation, so you can’t see much inside. Montmartre was probably my favorite place in Paris. It was so beautiful. The little streets were made out of laid stone. The streets were really hilly.

My sister and I got our portrait drawn by these people on the streets. Mine was abstract and really cool. They had little shops and restaurants everywhere. There are Boulangeries-Patisseries everywhere. The bread and pastries are so fresh. We went to go see Mission to Mars, and it was in English, which was really good. Well, I go to the Eiffel Tower tomorrow.

Normandy
Normandy was kind of depressing. We saw all of the D-day beaches. After a while I kind of got sick of hearing about all of the war history, and I also don’t think that I’m old enough to appreciate or even understand what happened.

To be honest with you, the only thing I cared about was getting to the coast and going to the beach. I liked to pick shells on the beaches, too.

But at Gold Beach, we did meet a British veteran who was in the war, and he told us about what happened. We also met some Americans at Omaha Beach at the American Cemetary who were in the war. I guess when I get older I’ll be glad that my mom took us to Normandy.
