Les Trois Mousquetaires go to France, Italy and maybe a few other places #13

Versailles and the Loire Valley châteaux
Versailles wasn’t what I thought it would be. There were so many people there. But, the rooms were so decorated from ceiling to floor, that you have to see! It was so huge, we couldn’t even see the whole thing. It was also really cold the day we went, and misting, so we didn’t go see the gardens. We saw some from the windows, though.

There was this one room with tons of mirrors, it was really cool. (mom’s note: she is talking about La Gallerie des Glaces)

Chambord

Chambord

The Loire Valley châteaux were really awesome. We spent almost a week seeing all of the châteaux. I liked all of them but my favorite would probably be Chambord. It was huge, and had tons of little towers. I also really liked Chenonceaux. It went across the river and had two really pretty gardens. My mom had some friends who lived in a real château. It was pretty big and they had a really nice garden with tons of different vegetables and fruits. They said it was a lot of work to keep up with everything.

We also went to see the Château d’Usee. Did you know that the castle in Disney World was based on this château? Apparently the guy who wrote Sleeping Beauty spent some time there. The owners re-created the story of Sleeping Beauty in the dungeons. That was really cool! They live in another part of the château, but you can’t go there. I liked seeing all of the châteaux a lot.

The Mont St Michel
The Mont Saint Michel was really fun. There were a lot of tourists there, kind of like in Montmartre. They had tons and tons of little souvenir shops and little restaurants everywhere on this tiny island. There are stairs everywhere!

The night we got there we went to eat at this pretty fancy restaurant right on the edge before you get to the Mont. I ordered an omelet thinking that it would be a regular fried omelet. They had put this foam junk on it and they burnt the top of it. It was pretty nasty. The only good thing we saw was the view. It was really pretty, especially when night started to fall.

The next day we went on the island. We ate at a little restaurant and I ordered shrimp. Well, the shrimps had little pinchers and the heads were still on it. I guess I was used to having them pealed off when it was served to me before!

I thought it was really fun seeing Mont St. Michel.
