It’s OK to Travel with a Bathrobe #4: Nooo…! Why now…? – Spain
Nooo…! Why now…?
Remember when you were little and your parents came to pick you up from your friends house?
“Now?? Just when I was having the best fun”
No matter how long you stayed, they always arrived when you least wanted to leave…Well, funny enough, things haven’t changed much since we were five years old, we get somewhere, it’s strange at first, then we have an OK time for a while and just when you feel you are having “the best fun”… Bang! There you go, your parents come to pick you up again, incarnated in a plane ticket to somewhere else. And all the excitement and the urge to leave that you had in the beginning disappear, you wish that you didn’t have to go.
I got to Cdiz, in Spain, about a month and a half ago. Cdiz is always a home base, I was born there, my parents live there and my true friends’ parents are there too, so I guess it can’t get more familiar. And yes, I wasn’t really “back”, I was more “passing by”, like a pit stop between trips, from Turkey to the Caribbean. I spent the time getting my stuff together and hanging out with some of the good friends that, luckily, still live in the city.
So I had coffees and talks and met new people, I started to slowly get cozy. As it happens, at first you are the “Just Arrived” person and before you notice, you are already integrated into the life of the place again like any other people there. The further you are from arrival, the easier you adapt to being home again and the harder it gets to depart.
It’s a narrow line between a scale and a short stay. The plant has time to root a bit.
